Lately when we’ve been out on nature walks, we have noticed the many signs that winter is coming. Gardens are being put to bed with a layer of compost and straw. Birds are flying south. Squirrels are burying acorns. Acorns, how do they taste? If you have ever wondered, turn to page 30 to learn how to leach acorns to make them more edible. If you have ever leached acorns, how did you do it? One could either soak the acorns in cold water for a period of time or boil them. Cold leaching is our favorite method.
